Cip Festival opens its gates on Wednesday July 6th

The events of the festival will be held at Grand Arsenali and at the Hamam of Katre Street

Wednesday 6 July

Opening of the Festival

Thursday 7 July

Presentation of Gerda Taro’s work – Hamam on Katre St.
Time: 20:00

Mr Nikos Apostolopoulos
Assistant Professor at the University of West Attica, Department of Photography and Visual Arts, will present Gerda Taro’s work.

 

Friday 8 – Monday 11 July

Photo Marathon 2022 – Grand Arsenal
Participation is free of charge and those interested can register by sending an email at info@cipfestival.com

The Cip Festival Marathon will take place as part of the 5th Chania International Photo Festival. Participants, Greeks and foreigners, will show how they see Chania through three photographic subjects, presenting their own perception of the city

Marathon Information:

The marathon will last for four days starting on Friday July 8, at 18:00.
All participants will receive their membership card and all the necessary information from Grand Arsenal (KAM) on the first day. Everyone should have their digital camera with them.
The end of the Marathon will be on Monday July 11 at 12 noon.
The participants should send 3 photos they have selected via email. The photos gathered will be evaluated by the committee in order for the winners of the Marathon to be selected. There will be three prizes and three honorable mentions

 

Friday 8 July

Workshop (Night Photography) – Grand Arsenal
Time: 19:00
Participation is free of charge and those interested can register by sending an email at info@cipfestival.com

Mr Alexander Voutsas,
faculty member, Athens School of Fine Arts, photography, will talk about night photography and then there will be a workshop on it. Night shooting will follow from dusk and into the night.
Please have in mind to have with you:
1. A tripod
2. A flashlight
3. String and/or thin rope
4. Use of dark/black clothing
5. A sand bag or a 3-5 kg. bag to use for tripod steadiness.
6. A hand held light meter if you have/own one.

 

Saturday 9 July

Presentation of Alain Schroeder’s Work – Hamam on Katre St.
Time: 21:00 – 22:00

The awarded Belgian Photographer has talked to Maria Toutoudaki about the “Making of”, of two of his works that have been awarded with first prize by the Word Press Photo, in 2018 and 2020 accordingly.
The photographer gives background information concerning these two works which were realized in Indonesia, called “Kid Jockeys” and “Saving Orangutans”

 

Sunday 10 July

Workshop (Nature Photography)
Time: 9:00 – 13:00
Participation is free of charge and those interested can register by sending an email at info@cipfestival.com

Mr Alexander Voutsas,
faculty member, Athens School of Fine Arts, photography, will do a workshop on nature photography. Participants will meet in the morning and will be taken by bus to a nearby gorge. There they will wander around and take photographs of the landscape. The outing will end up at a village called Nerokourou where they can rest for a while. The bus will take them from there and return them to Chania at around 13:00.
Please have in mind to have light gear with you.
Apart from your camera, you will need:
1. Comfortable shoes
2. Hat
3. Sunscreen
4. Water

 

Saturday 10 July

Bob Patterson, Publisher of Street Photo Magazine talks to Mr Alexander Voutsas – Hamam on Katre St.

Monday 11 July

Workshop (Night Photography – Nature Photography) – Hamam on Katre St.

will comment on the night and the nature photographs which were taken during the two workshops he held on July 8th and 10th and there will be a discussion on them

 

Tuesday 12 July

Photo Marathon Results – Grand Arsenal

The winners will be announced and the prizes will be awarded
